8 Companies, Including Starbucks, Will Enable Biodegradable Plastic Straws

Starbucks announced last week that it plans to stop using disposable plastic straws in all stores by 2020, and seven other multinational groups in addition to Starbucks have announced they will stop using disposable plastic straws instead of biodegradable plastic straws. As of 2016, there were at least 150 million tons of plastic in the ocean.

Starbucks estimates that more than 1 billion plastic straws will be used each year in 28,000 stores across the U.S. when the current program is launched.

So what are these companies, including Starbucks, preparing to replace plastic straws?

1.Starbucks When Starbucks announced it was reducing the amount of waste from plastic straws, it said it would replace existing cold drink straws with recyclable plastic cup lids.

If you are required to provide a straw when drinking star ice, replace it with a straw made of paper or compostable plastic.

2.Hyatt Hyatt Hotels group announced at a press conference that from September 1st plastic straws are only available on request.

Hyatt also said it would offer "environmental solutions" to replace other products, but did not specify.

3.Hilton Hotel Under Hilton‘s plans, the group‘s 650 hotels will phase out plastic straws in 2018 to meet their goal of halving their environmental footprint by 2030.

Hilton says straws can be provided on request, but are paper straws or biodegradable straws.

4.Britain Marriott In February 2018, Marriott Said more than 60 UK hotels will abandon plastic straws, the BBC reported. Marriott says it will offer alternative products, such as biodegradable straws or paper straws at customer‘s request.
